Dear Orthopaedic Surgery Applicants,

Dr. Uma Srikumaran is extending an invitation to individuals who applied for Orthopaedic Surgery but did not match in the current cycle to apply for the Shoulder and Sports Medicine Research Fellowship at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

This fellowship opportunity is tailored for applicants interested in gaining valuable research experience in Orthopaedic Surgery at a prestigious institution.

We are offering one paid ($35,000), one-year fellowship position with flexible start dates (May/June/July/August).

Fellows can anticipate the opportunity to author a minimum of 10-15 manuscripts, with many potentially serving as first authors. Additionally, there will be opportunities to present abstracts, posters, and podium presentations.

The research fellows will receive a comprehensive experience aimed at making a lasting impact on their careers. Throughout the fellowship, fellows will work closely with Dr. Uma Srikumaran and other esteemed members of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Uma Srikumaran is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Director of the Johns Hopkins University Clinical Shoulder Fellowship, and Vice Chair of Quality, Safety, & Service.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University has weekly educational activities that you are encouraged to take part in. These include weekly grand rounds and weekly shoulder journal club. Finally, fellows have the opportunity to attend clinics and work directly with both Dr. Srikumaran.

Research fellow responsibilities include: 
• Designing research hypotheses and performing literature reviews
• Drafting, submitting, and maintaining IRB proposals
• Collecting clinical data and performing statistical analyses
• Writing and submitting publications
• Writing and submitting research grants
• Clinical Experience (1-2 day/week): This involves scribing and enrolling patients into prospective clinical trials following-up on active enrollees, OR experience.
• Managing various aspects of clinical trials

Applicants are selected based on previous research experience, interpersonal and organizational skills, and a virtual interview.
