McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston Orthopaedic Trauma Post Graduate Clinical Research Year

The Orthopaedic Trauma Service at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is inviting exceptional 4th year medical students who have graduated to apply for a one-year position in orthopaedic trauma research. The goal of this funded position is to provide an improved understanding and skillset in orthopaedic research and exposure to high-level clinical education through a meaningful research experience. In addition, this experience will strengthen an application for orthopaedic surgery residency with the opportunity for multiple publications, presentations at national meetings, and interactions with leaders in the field of orthopaedics.

Located within the Texas Medical center, that largest medical center in the world, the Orthopaedic Trauma Service at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is one of the busiest Level 1 trauma centers in the country with 8 full-time faculty members. This position will have close mentorship with the research staff as well as opportunities to work with several members of the orthopaedic trauma faculty, fellows, and residents. Orthopaedic educational opportunities will be also available, including weekly orthopaedic trauma conference.

The fellow would be involved in multi-center research programs as well as local research studies within the department. Responsibilities would include but not be limited to patient recruitment and consenting, patient follow ups, IRB submissions, data collection and analyses, manuscript writing, and presentation designing. The position is full-time with a 12 month term including salary and University of Texas benefits for the 2018-2019 academic year.
