Congratulations to my current  fellow who matched at Atlantic Health System in Morristown, NJ, last year's fellow who matched at Albany Medical Orthopedic Residency, and summer research fellow at St. Mary's Orthopedic Residency.

The San Francisco Sports Medicine Fellowship is accepting applications for a Pre-Clinical Orthopaedic Fellow in Sports Medicine, Advanced Knee and Shoulder surgery. This position is ideal for an unmatched US Medical School graduate or surgical resident interested in Orthopaedic Surgery. At the end of the year the fellow will have obtained surgical and diagnostic skills to prepare them for Orthopaedic Residency.

Fellowship Description:

We are faculty at San Francisco Orthopaedic Residency. Each year we additionally train two pre-clinical Orthopaedic Fellows.

Two fellows each year participate as an assistant in clinic and surgery. The fellows will also participate in research in knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, foot & ankle surgery. The focus of research will be outcomes of new surgical techniques, anatomic studies, and clinical outcomes. As we are faculty at San Francisco Orthopaedic Residency The Fellow may participate in journal clubs, teaching conferences, anatomy labs at the Orthopaedic residency. Prior fellows have had up to 10 articles accepted for publication from their fellowship year.

The fellow will work with Dr. James Chen, Dr. Patrick McGahan, and Dr. Ajith Malige who focus on knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip surgery. In the knee, focus is on primary and multiple revision cruciate ligament reconstruction, complex multi-ligamentous knee reconstruction, and meniscus transplantation. The fellow will participate in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and focus on rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization, and ligamentous reconstruction. The open surgery focus is on complicated reconstructions and revision arthroplasty of the shoulder and knee. The elbow focus is on open and arthroscopic procedures. The hip focus is on arthroscopic procedures. 

The fellow receives an annual stipend, two weeks of vacation, and sponsorship at one continuing education/academic course. Malpractice insurance as a surgical assistant will be provided. Graduation from a US Medical School is required. However, a California Medical License or PTAL is not required for the fellow.
