Position Title: Clinical Research Fellow
Positions: 3
Duration: 1 year (potential to extend)
Who: US medical students between M2/M3 or M3/M4 interested in Orthopedic Surgery. Unmatched medical students and students applying to medical school may also be considered. Please note, we are unable to sponsor any international applicants at this time.
Where: Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center, Division of Sports Medicine, Chicago, IL.
When: May/June 2024-June 2025 (duration 1 year, potential to extend)
Salary: A monthly stipend is provided

Dr. Nikhil Verma, Director of the Rush Sports Medicine Fellowship, and Dr. Jorge Chahla together invite interested and motivated individuals to apply for a clinical research fellowship at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush and Rush University Medical Center. Our team provides the unique opportunity to work with two leaders in orthopedic sports medicine, both of whom are seeking forward-thinking, self-driven students to explore their interests in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by working in a fast-paced clinical research environment and biomechanics lab determined to produce high quality, novel research.

Current Areas of Active Research
· Return to sport and return to play
· Biological therapies (BMAC, PRP, amniotic products, etc.)
· Patient reported outcomes
· Database studies: Health claims, national registry databases, professional athletic
associations
· Procedure-specific outcomes and associations
· Biomechanics studies pertaining to the shoulder/knee/hip

Prerequisites and Applicant Characteristics:
· Motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery, with proven research interest
· Strong academic record and work ethic
· Organized, detail-oriented, proactive
· Prior experience in biomechanical research, prospective trials including randomized clinical trials, and database research are preferred
· Experience with data analysis and statistical software (SPSS, STATA, etc.) preferred

· Dr. Verma and Dr. Chahla expect all applicants to be able to match into orthopedic surgery and will provide guidance during the interview and match process.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter detailing current level of training, motivation for pursuing a research year, and future career goals. A complete application should also include a Curriculum Vitae, USMLE step I and/or II scores, and expected starting date. Reference(s) or letters of recommendation from any research or orthopaedic experiences are preferred (1-2), but not required. After review of application materials, select individuals will be invited for phone interviews with the current research team followed by interviews with Dr. Verma and Dr. Chahla.
