I am a 47 year old woman. I had a fusion done about 10 years ago. About a year ago my girl friend who is a massage therapist told me that she could feel on my back that my screws maybe backing out. I was having pain when you touched them but the doctors told me it was nothing. As the year went on I experienced more and more pain. My doctor sent me to a specialist who did a mylogram and said he thinks the disc above my fusion is just irritated. So he referred me to a pain management who gave me disc blocks. These were shots between my vertebrae not the spinal cord. They seemed to help a little but that meant there was a worse problem he told me. So off to get another xray. Luckily the tech I got was good and got a good picture of the screw that had broken in my back. So now the doctors had to go back in to my back and remove the old hardware and refuse and put new in. The only thing wrong is he couldn't get to the other disc because now I have bad arthritis in my back so I had to go back a week later and he had to go into my abdomen to remove the last disc and put in the gel stuff and finish it . This really sucks. I was told that my hardware being titanium wouldn't break and it did. I wish there was something I could do about it.
