Title: Research Assistant I

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Arthroplasty Service is seeking to fill the position of Clinical Research Assistant. This position will provide you with an opportunity to work in the exciting Longwood Medical Area academic environment, which is home to Harvard Schools of Medicine and Public Health and several large academic medical centers, and to be involved in cutting edge clinical research. This is a great opportunity for those planning to attend medical school, or to continue working in research.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in the implementation of clinical research studies including the following:
• Work with Arthroplasty Service faculty to design, implement, and analyze data, and report results of research studies
• Correspond with and prepare materials for the Internal Review Board (IRB)
• Develop study materials, manuals of operation and consent forms
• Perform medical chart reviews
• Collect and maintain study data
• Develop study data management systems, input data, and produce reports
• Conduct data cleaning and organize study data
• Assist in preparing research documents, presentations, manuscripts, and journal articles
• Conduct enrollment and follow-up telephone interviews and survey evaluations; schedule and complete in-person study visits
• Serve as a primary contact for study participants
• Complete literature searches and retrieve relevant articles
• Aid with editing and submission of research papers and grant proposals
• Serve as a main contact for study participants
• Organize and take minutes at group meetings
• Other administrative duties, as needed.
Requirements
• BA/BS with relevant course work or project work
Preferred Qualifications
• Organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to work as a team member and independently
• Excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet applications) and the ability to learn new computer applications
• Intellectual independence and initiative
• Interest in medicine
• The ideal candidate will have some medical experience (post bachelors clinical research experience or taking time off in-between medical school or taking time off before residency)
• Database experience
• Statistical experience not necessary but encouraged
