The Division of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Rothman Institute invites medical students to apply for a funded one-year clinical research fellowship, starting in the summer of 2019. The Shoulder and Elbow service at the Rothman Institute values superior patient care, excellence in education, and research productivity. In line with these goals, we are seeking driven and self-motivated students that are interested in pursuing a career in Orthopaedic Surgery. Preference will be given to students who have completed their 3rd year of medical school. The opportunity requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively across a broad spectrum of individuals, and elite-level organizational skills.

Research fellows are integral to the operation of all facets of our program. Our goal is to provide the fellow with opportunities to strengthening his/her application for orthopaedic residency, to expose the fellow to academic orthopedics, and to teach research skills that can be used to foster an academic career. The fellow will be directly involved in all facets of the research process including, development of study questions, literature review, study design, IRB approvals, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, writing of manuscripts, and preparation of presentations. Our previous fellows have been very productive and receive funding to attend national and international meetings to present their research. The Shoulder and Elbow division is comprised of nine fellowship-trained, academically motivated surgeons. Fellows will spend substantial time in both the outpatient clinic and operating room setting. Fellows additionally have the opportunity to attend weekly didactic conferences and to interact routinely with residents and clinical fellows. The position is funded.
If you have any additional questions regarding the fellowship, please contact our current fellow Liam Kane ([email protected]).
To apply for this position, email your CV, USMLE scores (if taken), and a brief statement of interest (limit to one paragraph) to our divisional research coordinator, Thema Nicholson, MSc ([email protected])
The deadline for consideration is January 25, 2019. Interviews will be conducted via Skype.
Thank you,
