The mission of the Global Spine Research Initiative (GSRI) at UC Irvine is to address global disparities in spine surgical care through research and education. The GSRI offers a one-year opportunity for exceptional third and fourth-year US medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery, global health and spine surgery. The Irvine Global Spine Research Fellow can expect to participate in 20-30 research projects and collaborate with principal investigators both domestically and internationally. There will be a monthly stipend of $1500.00. UC Irvine faculty will provide mentorship for the residency application process as well as a career in orthopaedic surgery.
 Application requirements include:
  • CV
  • Personal Statement (one page) describing your interest in global health
  • Reference - Please provide name and email of one contact we can reach out to
  • Unofficial Medical School Transcript
  • Step 1 and Step 2 scores (if completed)
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until April 1, 2024, and interviews will be conducted with qualified candidates. Acceptance notifications will be sent by April 20, 2024. The research year will start on July 1, 2024.
