The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Keck Medical Center of the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, invites highly motivated medical students and medical school graduates to apply for a funded research position for the academic year 2024-2025.

Dr. Lieberman, Chairman of Orthopaedics at USC, has been conducting basic science research for over two decades to study healing of critical sized bone defects using gene therapy. The lab is looking for two medical students interesting in taking a research year to work in the lab alongside a full-time PGY3 orthopaedic surgery research resident. The lab has a long history of past medical students matching into orthopaedic surgery residencies across the country including most recently at USC, NYU, and Mayo Clinic. In addition to working alongside the Chairman of Orthopaedics, there are opportunities to attend core lectures, ground round series, and be involved in clinical research studies with other divisions in the Department. This funded research position is an excellent opportunity to bolster your CV prior to applying to residency programs. Additionally, you will become proficient in stem cell preparation, preclinical model development, and all aspects of data collection and manuscript drafting.
