SEEKING:
The Rothman Institute Foundation for Opioid Research & Education is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in southeastern Pennsylvania, is seeking a full-time and/or part-time Research Fellow for 1 year (June 1, 2026 – May 31, 2027), who is passionate and committed to a career in orthopaedics, musculoskeletal medicine, pain management, and/or public health. Research focus will include both pain management and orthopaedics. Please note:
-Start and end dates can be flexible.
-Will be primarily remote but with regular in person coordination and opportunities for clinical observorships and participation in conferences and journal clubs.

COMPENSATION:
A monthly stipend of $3000, without benefits.

ELIGIBILITY:
Must be a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident. Must have completed at least an undergraduate degree. Preference will be given to medical students or recent medical graduates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and support new and ongoing educational and advocacy projects. Track, coordinate, write, edit, and submit ongoing research. Organize and execute new research trials. Support grant program execution and reporting. Facilitate meetings and events. Co-author multiple manuscripts and present research at meetings.

SKILLS:
Strong communication skills and work ethic, with reliable responsiveness. Comfortable working with and leading a small team of medical students. Strong writing and editing skills. Strong organizational skills. Google Doc/Sheets skills. Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint skills. Ability to train in and master the TriNetX database

ACTIVE AREAS OF RESEARCH:
Medical cannabis utilization for pain management
Peri-operative pain management strategy
Opioid prescribing practices by various specialties
Efficacy of opioid prescribing education
Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) analysis
Orthopaedic outcome studies focused on infections, fractures, nerve injuries, and joint arthroplasty.

BRIEF BIO of DR. ASIF ILYAS:
Dr. Ilyas is President of the Rothman Institute Foundation for Opioid Research & Education. Dr. Ilyas also serves as Chairman & Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Drexel University College of Medicine, with his clinical practice at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute where he specializes in hand, upper extremity, nerve & orthopaedic trauma surgery. Dr. Ilyas is an award winning researcher and has over 250 peer-reviewed publications. He has long championed innovative pain management strategies to minimize patient opioid consumption and abuse. He is most passionate about research focusing on innovative strategies for upper extremity fracture management, wide awake hand surgery, pain management in orthopaedic surgery, and leveraging the TriNetX database for innovative research investigations.
