4 LOR's???

Our PD says he randomly discards one of the letters before reading them if you send four. The one he tosses may be your worst, or it may be your best.

Programs that ask for 4 LORs: Hopkins, Harvard (including Chief Rez), UCLA (including Chair)

Programs that ask for 3 LORs: guessing game as to whether all will be read. I'm thinking that more programs will read all 4 versus throwing one out. And as it is too much trouble to try to find out exactly what they do at all 30 places...I'm taking my chances and sending 4 to every program that does not specify 3 only.
