Anyone hearing from programs...

I have received phone calls from 3 program directors and email from some residents at other programs. I'm still unsure of all of the rules and how much contact to expect.

Question: Would it HURT your chances of going somewhere if you decline an offer for a second look? (i.e., would they view this as disinterest and maybe drop you lower on their list?)

good ?. i would just tell them you want to, but don't know if you can get time away from your rotations. my 2 cents

Fixated, what programs have you heard from out of curiosity,or are you unable to share. Also if you're really bold, what did they say to you ?

Called by 1 PD. For similar reasons to OF won't say who. Simply told that I was "ranked highly" and that I would be a "good match" via a voice mail. Although I'm still not exactly sure what that means. I hope this doesn't contribute to anyone worrying (the process sucks enough). From what I've gathered the majority of programs don't call. Just wanted to ditto OF's post that these calls do exist. So, either don't answer your phone for out-of-state caller ID's, or be ready to state your interest if you plan on answering.

from talking to those matching in the past, i think a lot of the "bigger" named programs do make calls. They want to only go so far down their list...so to speak. I've received 1 email and 1 letter....however, both pretty vague. To be honest ( i don't know about you guys/gals) but i really don't think my list will change regardless of who calls me. The match is supposed to work in OUR favor. I guess if some PD calls you, it will be nice to know you are wanted...so maybe it will have some effect. Dont' know yet..

I would remember to take everything you read on this site with the proverbial grain of salt. I know/have met those who have put things such as interviews, call backs, boasts of various successes on this site as a joke and to see the reaction they will get from other readers. Not to personally attack anyone who has posted such things, just remember that type of stuff happens and this is an anonymous message board.

U of Florida Gainesville sent a thank you letter. Has everyone who interviewed there received the letter?

yeah, got that email too. pretty vague, but surely they only send that to applicants they rank. Email was sent to "Distribution...." so i'm sure it went to multiple people. who knows....

I personally have received one phone call from a chairman and have received one written letter saying "you would be a good match" and other stuff. Won't change my list though. I don't expect to hear from many others because i believe that the great programs will expect to get their top choices anyway...b/c they are great institutions and not because they sway the crowd with their promises. It is all good to hear, but NOT hearing from a place should not discourage anyone. These are just my feelings.
