I've heard Maricopa's program in Phoenix is in the processing of being "rebuilt," and may not be the best place to train. Can anyone give a brotha the word on the street?

I interviewed there and thought that the program was definitely on the way up. They seem to have a good core group of attendings and a chairman that is committed to the program. Further, they recently picked up a major level 1 trauma center in Phoenix, so the case load should be pretty good. The residents seemed like a good group of guys and Phoenix is awesome. Though I only had one day to get to know the program, the program received raves from student rotators that I met on the interview trail.

Also, always take advice that you hear on these websites with a grain of salt. You don't always know the credentials and personality of the advisor so do at least a 2 week rotation there and see for yourself. Hope that helps.
