I am an MSIII with no home ortho program, and have an opportunity to spend a few precious weeks in August at the Steadman Hawkins clinic. I hace heard that a letter from Steadman might not help or even hurt me come interview time. Soliciting any feedback from anyone that knows anything about letters of rec from "non-academics", even the famous ones.

peace out

rocket,

Get all the letters you can, especially from attendings who know you well. You can always decide later on about which letters to include and which ones to exclude when you transmit to programs. Don't close any doors so soon!

Spend the few weeks there in August then do a second away where you can get another letter.
