h$%&o,

I was recently talking to a resident while I was on rotation and he suggested using my away rotations "only" at places that will give you an automatic interview or that I really love for what whatever reason. I dont know how sound this advice is but I am worried at how many interviews I will get and if i could get an almost definite interview, then atleast it wil rest more on how I did that month with them. Does anyone know what programs out there automatically give "courtesy" interviews if you have rotated through them?? :roll smile:

I would say that a majority of programs grant rotators an interviewer unless you just completely mess up in which case you don't deserve one. Those programs that don't invite rotators are probably the ones that you don't want to go to in my opinion. Some programs actually will interview you while you're doing your rotation so you don't have to come back during the hectic interview season. Some programs give info on their website. You could always email or call them, but that might be inappropriate?

As far as number of interviews, I would say that if you do 10-12 interviews, then you're sitting pretty. There's only so many number of interviews you can go to as many overlap on the same day. It maybe that you get 20 invites, but can't realistically make it to everyone. Just be sure that you don't overshoot by going on a big name that everyone wants and ignore some of the smaller programs. No matter the program, you still become an Orthopod.

To be specific, Grand Rapids, great program and an automatic interview if you rotate. Not sure how hard it is to get in since I have heard a few times how the now 2nd year class of 4 scored a combined >1000 on Step I (not bad) Check past posts because I do believe there have been quite a few nuggets on this.

Mayo is a place that won't except you for an A.I. if you're not a "Mayo" caliber residency candidate. CCF doesn't interview all of their rotators. Neither does Vanderbilt or Miami.
