hey guys, i was hoping some of you can help me decide on good places to do aways at (places which will most likely grant me an interview and have a shot of getting into). I'd like to stay on the east coast if i can - boston, ny, d.c - even though i know these are tough states to match in (but i'll apply to programs everywher) As for my background:
preclinical: honored around 25% of classes
clinical: don't know yet, i am in my 3rd year now - have a feeling i might a honor a couple, and hp the rest.
step 1: 243
research: some ortho and non-ortho research, nothing published - just a case report pending publication. i have an elective block at the end of the yr for about 8 wks - hopefully i can get into a good lab and work hard to get something published.
med school: somewhere in the 30s in usnews -whatever that means.
other: i am an md/mba - not sure if the mba might help me, hurt me, or do nothing for me.

Its probably pretty early for me to be thinking about this, i should be concentrating on doing well on core clerkships - but does anyone have any advice about programs i should consider. Would it be worth it to do a rotation at columbia, sinai, eistein, etc.. - or are these way out of reach for someone like me. also, any advice on when best to do aways, do most people do them before sept. so as to have them on transcripts and get recs in time, or can they do them as late as nov/dec. thanks for the help

with a 243 you're pretty competitive for just about any program. I wouldn't rotate at any of the D.C programs unless you really want to go there. Columbia and Mt. Sinai are definitely within reach. I think you can do better than Einstein with your scores.

Maybe a wee bit too early to answer your post. I bet after March many of us will have a lot more info of where we got interviews and match (if at all). After everone who matches creams their shorts I bet they will tell you all the info you want. It also appears that each year the scores on Step I keep going up, you darn kids just keep getting smarter and smarter.
