I rotated at NEMC as a med student and have met most of the residents. I have only good things to say about the program. From my experience, I can tell you that the residents are a great group of people. They are fun to work with, and very well trained. I thought they were better trained then the residents at the other programs I rotated through. The attendings were great to work with as well. They are very approachable, and interested in teaching. I never rotated through the Baptist or Newton Wellesley, but once I told my resident how impressed I was with the NEMC part of it and he told me that the other 2 hospitals were even better experiences as far as hands on goes. The call is q 3, but I think as a 3rd year they sometimes put 2 3rd years on together, and so only one has to stay in house, and after your 2nd year (1st Ortho year), I don't think you get woken very often. Even during your 1st Ortho year, it didn't seem too bad. I think Chief call is from home. Also, they do q 3 weekends. A plus in my book, because although 1 weekend sucks, the next 2 are totally free. By the way, it isn't a trauma center for adults, but it is for pediatrics. So you do get that experience. We had 3 pedi traumas during my month rotation. As far as I know, there isn't much Spine or tumor at NEMC, but personally, I don't find that to be a drawback. Sports, hand and joints are all strong at NEMC, and there is good foot/ankle, and of course joints at the Baptist. I know Newton Wellesly has great hand surgeons, but I don't know specifics about the other departments. At NEMC, they have resident clinic every Wednesday. (half hand, half general Ortho) It was a good experience, because you see all of your own patients, and run your plan by either the chief or attending there that day. I found it to be a good way to learn. Overall, I think it's a great program to train at, and I would absolutely recommend it. If you have any more specific question, please don't hesitate to ask!
