Boston U vs. U of Rochester

Got conflicting dates. Can anyone give some pros and cons of the programs if they know about them?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

BU and Rochester

The following is hearsay:

Rochester has a VERY DIFFICULT PGY2...but the remainder of your training gets better...home call for
last 3 yrs...but I've heard second year is pretty tough. Great program...reputation is probably better
than BU...Rochester is very academic and gets a lot of NIH funding. Rochester (i have heard) is a nice
place to live...kind of a small city with a taste of big city life...

BU is tough all 5 yrs...you take in-house call the whole time...I know a student who rotated there and
said it was pretty busy...but he liked it there...said the residents were great and efficient. Dr. Einhorn is
the chair...he mostly publishes basic science stuff rather than clinical papers...This program is very
trauma-heavy...apparently BU is the hospital that gets most of the trauma in Boston...

I think they're both great programs...you couldn't miss with either...I chose Rochester.

Rochester

Rochester is one of the top programs in the NE, if not the country. You are given a whole ortho library at
the start of the second year. You get beat up as a PGY2 but then you have home call with Bell
Commission rules after that.. awesome. Much better than Boston, which beats you up for 5 years, is in a
crappy area, and gives you only trauma experience. Boston definitely beats Rochester in a comparison of
cities, however. I think 22 people were buried alive by snow last year in Rochester in March..... And the
big city you can go to on your weekends off is Buffalo.... enough said. My 2 cents.

Re: Rochester

Rochester is much better than BU. No question about it. BU is a weak program with no-names.

Thanks a bunch. Kind of backs up my gut impression.
