Anyone else feeling anxious waiting for the invites to begin rolling in, hopefully! I'm sure this forum is going to get pretty busy over the next few weeks. Let the party begin ...

it sure is quiet....i know rads and all the others have already started their kickoff. best comes last i guess.

either way, i can use the down time to relax and hit the weights pretty seriously. i'm wondering if i should do my double bicep shot at the beginning of the interviews or towards the end...so many critical decisions, so little time....

Okay, I didn't want to say anything, b/c people will freak out as it is so damn EARLY in the game, but...
Akron General has started interviews..now through Jan 31st, any M,T or R, and they have at least started to offer (with many more to come I'm sure).
My apps been in for over a month, so don't get panties in a bind one way or the other

Also, I spent a month at Mayo on the 2nd most "malignant" service there is, and really, if that's as bad as it gets it's not that bad. Maybe I have thicker skin, but I found it to be fairly benign (yes, the attending in question "yelled" alot, but he's not really yelling, it's just to pass the time

). I had fun in Rochester, but to each their own.

Just my opinion.

Do you think it matters that not all my LORs are in yet? I have two orthopods and am waiting for two more big names. As applications are due I have been using other LORs (a non-ortho and my ortho chairman) but would rather send the two I'm waiting for. Should I continue to wait, or send the back-up letters and the exchange them once the newer letters arrive?

no need to send in other letters yet. THere are only a handful of programs that will make offers before the Dean's letter is out. If Oct 31 rolls around and you don't have the letters in, you may want to send in the other letters. I received two offers last year before the Dean's letter and both of those were when I had only one letter of rec. If they are going to offer early, it won't matter if you app is complete or not.

The dates listed were for some extending an interview and others extending a slap across the face. The best way to use this info in my own humble opinion is that if you haven't heard from the program within a reasonable time period from the date listed below it wouldn't hurt to send a quick e-mail or a quick phone call to the program coordinator/secretary to check up on the status of your application. You may find out earlier than others that you got an interview or of course that you got rejected but at least you found out. Or you may even get more details like how one or two more on the commmittte need to review your app. Just be slick about it and gauge over the phone or over e-mail if the coordinator is annoyed or happy that your interested and you can follow-up as appropriate. I'm an ortho intern now and I think I'm still waiting to hear from a few places! Good Luck all, I remember the stress, the waiting, and the rollercoaster of emotions as well - sometimes it got so bad I think I squatted just to urinate. I ended up applying to around 50-55 got offered 22 and went on 18 and ranked all 22 even the ones I didn't interview at and ended up matching at my top spot! Even in hindsight I still would have went on all 18 interviews and ranked all the programs. I don't care how good/brilliant/sexy you think you are, if you wanna do ortho then rank all of the programs even Wayne State and UIC, in the end you'll be happier as an orthopod resident than an unmatched prelim.

I didn't get any love from Akron either, but I did get an interview from Baylor today... At least now I know there wasn't some glaring mistake or red flag (i.e. me talking about my love for Star Trek or The X-Files in my personal statment) in my ERAS application. See you all on Jan. 16!

They just sent a brief email giving you the choice between Jan. 9 and Jan. 16 (with dinner the night before).

I'm assuming that email was different than the one that just stated "Our interview dates are Jan 9th and Jan 16th, with dinner the night before" but then went on to say "Interview is by invitation only" correct ?
Just making sure I didn't miss something, I got the Where and When email but I assumed that was just informing us all when the interviews would be, and wasn't an invitation, so I didn't call them or anything.

There was the e-mail you stated with the numbered list dealing with frequently asked questions and a separate e-mail a few days later with an invitation for an interview.

Sometimes I can't read, so I just had to make sure that tingling I felt really was the door hitting my ass on the way out of the Baylor invite room
