I would like to the forum's opinion on this program as far as quality of education, OR experience, etc. I know it is now a 6year program with a year of research but that's about it. How hard is it to match there? AOA/Step 1, I'm sure research is a requirement. Any input would be very helpful. Thanks.

Well here goes,
The Cleveland Clinic is an all around great program. The residency works like a "mini fellowship" (i.e. like Mayo). By that I mean that you spend a block of time with a particular attending surgeon. The benefit if this model is that the more time you spend with that surgeon, the more you do. Also, there is almost NO TIME spent "double scrubbing." This means that you will either do the case (which is the most common) or be first assist. The OR experience starts early, i.e. as an intern you will be doing total joints as the primary surgeon. Of course, the attending is telling the intern where to cut, but the blade and the saw will be in your hands. The higher up you go, the more autonomy you will get.

The residents spend a total of 6 months at Metro in Cleveland for level I trauma, and 3 months in Akron for pediatric trauma.

THe call schedule is nice. PGY-2 take 6 calls/month. PGY-3 take 2 calls/month. PGY- 4 take 2 calls/month as a backup to the intern, and PGY-5 take call from home.

Traditionally, it has been a very competitive place to match. Rotating there definetly helps, but is NOT mandatory. Don't know how the 6 year program affects things though.

Hope this helps
