Position Title
: Clinical Research Fellow
Positions: 2  
Duration: 1 year
Who: US medical students interested in Orthopedic Surgery
Where: Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center, Sports Medicine. Chicago, IL.
When: Beginning Approx. May 2025 (preferred) / Early June 2025 - June 2026
Salary: A monthly stipend is provided
**Rush is currently unable to sponsor foreign students or accept persons with equivalent MD medical training from other countries.

Dr. Adam B. Yanke is seeking ambitious medical students (between Third and Fourth Year) who are interested in pursuing a year-long clinical research fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Dr. Adam B. Yanke is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at Rush University Medical Center, and works with the renowned Division of Sports Medicine as the Co-Director of the Cartilage Restoration Center and Assistant Team Physician for the Chicago Bulls. He has a special interest in patellofemoral disorders, cartilage restoration, orthobiologics, and developing and applying innovative 3D and computational tools in the treatment of patellofemoral and cartilage disorders of the knee.

In this position you will have the opportunity to participate in performing both basic science (including cadaveric and biomechanical studies) and clinical research in an effort to contribute meaningfully to the literature across the continuum from bench to bedside. This unique position will allow the research fellow to work closely with residents, fellows, and faculty at Rush. The research fellow will also have extensive opportunities for publication and presentation of research at various conferences.

The research fellow will work very closely with the research fellows for the other sports medicine attendings and be responsible for various duties including:
  •  Coordination of all research projects including both clinical and basic science studies
  •  Submission of protocols and updates to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  •  Consenting patients for studies and performing pre-operative physical exams
  •  Collection of intra-operative data as well as following up with patients in clinic
  •  Collection and processing of patient samples
  •  Dissection/testing of cadaveric specimens for research purposes
  •  Statistical analysis of data
  •  Drafting/editing of manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters
  •  Presenting research updates at weekly meetings with the sports medicine attendings
  •  Grant writing
Prerequisites for the position include:
  •  Strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery
  •  Evident interest in research
  •  Strong academic record
  •  MUST be extremely organized and detail oriented
  •  MUST be able to self-manage and work independently
  •  MUST be able to work efficiently with clinical staff
  • Experience with statistical analysis or coding is a plus
