MEDICAL STUDENT RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP: ORTHOPAEDIC ONCOLOGY

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center is proud to announce an exciting research opportunity that is available to medical students interested in pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery. The goal of the Medical Student Research Fellowship is to support the academic development of promising young investigators who are committed to performing high quality translational research.

The program is led by the orthopaedic oncologists Dr. Bang Hoang, Dr. David Geller and Dr. Rui Yang who serve as the primary mentors for all research fellows. The research focus of the Orthopaedic Oncology Laboratory is on improving surgical and survival outcomes for patients with osteosarcoma. The laboratory utilizes pre-clinical animal models of osteosarcoma to study the pathogenesis of the disease as well to study the efficacy of novel anti-cancer agents. The Orthopaedic Oncology Laboratory works in close collaboration with the Gorlick Laboratory, led by pediatric oncologist Dr. Richard Gorlick, Chair of the Bone Tumor Disease Committee within the Children’s Oncology Group.

Fellows will have opportunity to select from a variety of exciting translational projects, will participate in weekly lab meetings and will have the opportunity to see patients in the multi-disciplinary orthopaedic surgery/ pediatric oncology sarcoma clinic within the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. The research fellowship requires a minimum commitment of one year, with the opportunity to extend the fellowship for interested students.

For additional information about the research fellowship please send your CV and a brief letter describing your previous research experience, current research interests, and career goals to [email protected]

Thank you very much for your time and we are looking forward to hearing from you.

David S. Geller, MD Bang Hoang, MD Richard Gorlick, MD
