The Mayo Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery invites second- and third-year medical students as well as unmatched orthopedic applicants to apply for a one-year clinical research fellowship position starting in the Spring of 2026 with OSAIL in Rochester, MN. The start date is flexible between May and June depending on the applicant’s academic calendar.  This is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated individuals to strengthen their application for the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Match. The research fellow will be expected to work on numerous projects with several investigators; therefore, excellent organizational and communication skills are paramount. The research fellow will work closely with Dr. Cody C. Wyles, Dr. Joaquin Sanchez-Sotelo, Dr. Michael J. Taunton, and other Mayo Clinic orthopedic faculty. Duties include idea creation, project design, scientific literature search, image annotation, data cleaning, data collection, statistical analysis, figure creation, grant editing, and manuscript preparation. Previous experience with artificial intelligence research is not required, only a desire to learn. Fellows will be paid a stipend of $20,000. In addition, the fellow will also have the opportunity to practice surgical skills and enhance their orthopedic and research knowledge through working in the cadaver lab with residents/attendings, observing and participating in journal clubs, and attending weekly didactic sessions in various disciplines within orthopedics to develop a strong foundation of knowledge.  Our fellows develop strong research skills, publish numerous papers, and may have the opportunity to present their research in scientific conferences. The support continues after leaving the program; we offer mentorship and guidance during the residency application process, and nearly all previous fellows have gone on to match into orthopedic surgery residencies.   For more information about our lab please visit our site: If you have further questions about the position, you can reach out to OSAIL:To apply, email the following items (zipped into a single file) to: This email address is being protected from spambots.
