Does anyone know anything about the program? Just trying to get a feel for it (reputation, quality of training, quality of life, etc). Thanks.

When I interviewed last year, I was pretty impressed with MCW. They provide a pretty solid breadth of training. The facilities are awesome, and I think Milwaukee would be a decent place to live if you can handle the cold. The only glaring turn off was the manner in which they conducted their interviews. Be prepared for some very strange questions during your visit (if you could be reincarnated as a historical figure... and other similarly useless lines of questioning). They actually asked these questions with straight faces, which made if even more difficult not to laugh during the interview. I really believe it was more to catch you off guard than anything. I forget how many interview days they offer, but there will be about 30-40 other applicants there per day (if they do it in a similar manner to last year). I got the impression that the residents are very well taken care of. All in all, if you can tolerate a little weird intimidation on the interview day I think this program would be a nice place to train.

This place is a diamond in the rough. I agree with IM Nailer, except the part about getting asked weird questions, I didn't. I have a buddy who is a resident there and loves it. All the sub-specialties are covered; a very well-rounded and well-respected program. They are big-time resident advocates at this place and really take care of their guys. They just got a few new young attendings who often hang out with the residents as well. When I interviewed, the residents seemed like one of the happier groups that I saw, without any weirdos. I hear they operate a lot but don't get killed. Facilities are sweet. I would encourage anyone to check out MCW for themselves.
