Ok...

Just went to Mon-T last week, only have CWRU and UVM...

I have gotten a big B*%#H SLAP from wake, u chi, ariz, wisconsin, oregon, uconn, jhu (3 today with no new love!)

And I am not too bad an applicant... mid 230's, senior AOA, did well 3rd year...

what up? Anyone else feelin the heat?

hey heel i know how you feel. i've gotten rejected from the same programs you've listed and a bunch more. I'm batting .286 with 8 interviews but rejected from 20. Still waiting to here from about 30. You've got the senior AOA thing going which should hopefully get you some more. I don't have the AOA, but I have a pretty stellar 3rd year with similar board scores as you. Just sounds like a bunch of superstars this year, even more so than in the past. Board scores were much higher this year too. For non-rotators WFU, UC, UCONN said that although they don't have a cutoff Step 1 score, 240's seemed to be the lowest score for people getting interviews with many in the 250 and 260 range. Applications for Ortho are up 20-25% this year at the majority of the places too. Just a bad year...

Heel, you have interviews at two great programs and it sounds as if you are a good applicant. I would expect that you will hear from several more programs in the future. It is hard to understand why one school offers an interview while another doesn't, even though you may think you've been rejected by programs of lesser status than those you have offers from. Anyway, don't give up yet--there's still a lot of programs out there that have yet to spread their love.

There was some debate on whether work hours would cause an increase in the applications to surgical residencies, because people that didn't want to work 100+ hours would give it a shot if they thought they would only work 80-90. Maybe we are seeing this with the increased apps at a lot of programs. That or this group just has a lot more people applying to 80+ programs.
