# of programs

Right now, I am up to 44 programs. I think that runs around $650 I may add a couple more before it is over. That seems like a lot of cash, but it is nothing compared to the air-fare for interviews, or the $180,000 I have in student loans. I think $50 is a solid number.

I have to believe this will seriously vary from individual to individual depending on the area and type of programs you are applying to and how strong a candidate you are on paper to reel in the interviews (granted if you say to yourself "my #'s are stellar but but I'm a bit of a tool you better go on a few more interviews). I've heard from several people in the midwest apply to 30-35 and get 10 interviews which should be golden. Bottom line: it is all going to depend on your comfort level and as ortho2003 said the money involved at this point is basically the tip at the bar and that's if you're a cheap cheap tipper. :smokin:

applied to 60, and it cost me about $950 bucks.

To put things in perspective: airfare, gas, hotels, turnpike tolls, snacks for long car rides, etc. cost less than the darn eras application.
Interviewed at 12 programs.

Drove to as many places as I could. Use discount web sites (i.e. orbitz.com, travelocity, etc) and/or Southwest airlines to find the cheapest airfare. And I knew someone in every single city that I went to. Also inquire whether you can get an interview during your A.I. Mayo does this and I thought it was awesome of them to do so.

Also wondering from any of the interns if you used or heard of any discounts from airlines if you are a traveling medical student. Heard this is possible, through the grapevine of course, and offerend by possibly Northwest and another airline. Any truth to this or was I smoking the Panama Red (2nd hand of course) :pimp:
