Overview
We are inviting third- or fourth-year medical students (MS3, MS4) to apply for a Clinical Research Coordinator II position in Orthopaedic Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a Harvard teaching hospital.The Clinical Research Coordinator works under the general direction of the Orthopedic Department and is required to work with physicians, clinical nurses, and staff to identify and recruit eligible patients for clinical studies. This coordinator will be the primary compliance officer for the Oncology Service, responsible for obtaining regulatory approval at both the local and federal level for the service’s research endeavors. Additionally, they will act as primary contact for all of service’s research-related administration.  
Principal Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Design research protocols in conjunction with the PIs, providing critical input as to feasibility of study design and available resources.
  • Serves as a resource for patients and study sponsor personnel during the study.
  • Works directly with the MGB Human Research Committee and Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  • Demonstrates extensive understanding and knowledge of designated study protocols and methods of implementation.
  • Obtains informed consent from patients for studies and has extensive understanding of the informed consent process
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Data Use Agreement and Material Use Agreement process and requirements
  • Organizes, establishes and maintains research databases and uses these databases to extract information for reports, papers, and general feedback to the study team.
  • Collects, compiles, tabulates, and analyzes research data. 
  • Has extensive understanding of clinical research regulatory requirements.
  • Writes and submits manuscripts, including managing revisions and edits requested by reviewers.
  • Responsible for supervising and teaching oncology research staff.
  • Conducts on and off-site training sessions to appropriate audiences – including PI’s, Co-investigators, and all relevant staff.
  • Proficient in assembling documents for grant submissions in conjunction with the PI. 
  • Work with MGB Research Finance and all related entities to ensure adherence to budgetary standards and operations.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
  • Must be capable of taking initiative to complete all job responsibilities independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Must demonstrate analytical skills to problem solve and display initiative to introduce innovations to research study.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, be highly organized, and detail oriented is necessary to perform the above job functions.
  • Must have the ability to identify problems and develop solutions for situations that are either analytical or technical in nature.
  • Requires the ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines.
  • Requires excellent computer skills in multiple applications: Microsoft Office, Outlook. Excellent knowledge of database management, statistical analysis techniques, and research methodologies are preferred, but not required.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills
Education and Experience
  • BA/BS required
  • Completion of at least third year of medical school required
  • 1-2 years of research experience required
