Dr. Jonathan Deland and Dr. Scott Ellis at the Hospital for Special Surgery are looking for a medical student between their third and fourth years of medical school to fulfill a one year full-time, paid position as a research assistant for the Foot and Ankle Service from 2022-2023.
This research year is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the field of orthopaedic surgery. During the research year, the student will have the opportunity to coordinate, organize, and execute multiple research projects. There are ample opportunities to lead or co-author manuscripts and presentations, and to present at conferences. Other aspects of the job include registry data management, research design and implementation, literature searches, and managing IRB submissions. Common research topics include flatfoot deformity, total ankle replacement, and hallux valgus. As a medical student, you have the additional benefit of being able to scrub into OR cases and assist in clinic. You will also have the opportunity to attend academic conferences by the Foot and Ankle department.
Dr. Deland and Dr. Ellis are looking for a medical student who is motivated and willing to work hard, and this job would be best for someone interested in orthopaedic surgery. Prior research experience is helpful.
