The Mayo Clinic Division of Pediatric Orthopedics invites medical students to apply for a 1-year research fellowship. There is one position available for the coming year, with an ideal start date in early summer. This position is ideal for a highly organized, motivated individual to strengthen their residency application and gain invaluable experience in research. Fellows will be responsible for a variety of research-related tasks and must have excellent time management and communication skills. The purpose of this program is to provide highly capable applicants with additional training in clinical and basic science research, such as development of hypothesis, study design, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation. Fellow tasks may involve maintenance of databases, completion of IRBs, and protocol construction. Fellows may also pursue translational research, work with biospecimens, and pursue multiple independent research projects. Our fellows are welcome to further their orthopedic knowledge by attending departmental conferences, journal clubs, and division research meetings. This position provides large amounts of attending and resident interaction, and ample opportunity to foster connections and mentorship. Previous fellows have been highly productive with multiple peer-review publications and national conference presentations. The schedule is flexible and fellows are welcome to schedule away rotations, interviews, and other activities as needed. Accepted fellows may apply for partial funding through T32 NIH grant.
