Programs interviewed, but not ranked

There was one place that I interviewed and then did not rank. Basically, I felt that I would be so miserable there that I would rather be scrambling into ANYTHING else. Yes, it was that bad. I just did not like the chairman at all--actually I strongly disliked him and could not imagine having to work for him for 5 years. I also did not really click with the residents nor did I particularly like the location. So, needless to say, it is not on my list.
With Ortho being as competitive as it is, you really have to have some strong negative feelings to not even include a place on your list, but the question you must ask yourself is "would I rather open my envelope and see this program or get the dreaded e-mail on the 17th?"

I did not rank Mayo. This decision was for a variety of reasons. First, being involved in the couples match it just didn't work out. Secondly, I think the program is very strong academically however it just wasn't the program for me in terms of the attending's and resident's personalities--I didn't feel as if I would be a good fit. Surprisingly, I actually was not as turned off by Rochester (aka Mayo, MN) as many on this forum. Plus I don't want to wear a suit to work everyday!

Didn't have the sack to not rank anyone, but had a couple that made me really think about my decision. Last year's numbers made me think thirty times about the "what if's" of not ranking them (Hawaii), but only four spots scared me enough into ranking them in the end.

Didn't rank Duke or MCV. Neither one was for me, and I would have rather sat out a year than been someplace that I knew wasn't right.
