i was one of the twelve guys that interviewed there this year. if you are looking for a non-academic program in a great city, then this is the one. the residency is a very tight knit family and they seem to get along very well. the chairman is dr. wynne. he is very old school, but a very nice guy. happens to also be one of the co-owners of orlimar golf clubs. they go to a couple different hospitals. one of them is a huge county hospital in oakland. this is where they get all of their trauma. sounds like a hard core knife and gun club. another one is st. mary's (where the program is based out of). if i remember correctly, there major rotation there is joints (one of the attendings is a national big wig for joints). st. mary's is also where they do all of their lectures and they have a nice sawbones lab. they also to to kaiser in sf and to the shriners in sacramento. most of the call is home call. for sports, i believe that they still cover the giants. also, this program is woman friendly for all of you ortho chicks out there!!

the person who makes this place run is suzy. she is a very in-your-face person (but in a good way). really keeps dibs on the residents and takes care of problems immediately. if you p@#$ her off, you can pretty much count on the fact that you will not be matching there.

one of the major weaknesses in my eyes was the fact that they did no ortho in their fist year. as an intern, you will also do medicine (yuk!).

i hope that this post helps. i know that it was difficult finding information on this program and i just had to end up going out there to check it out. i think that they are just really getting up to speed with the whole eras program since they have only been in the match for 3 years. also, they just celebrated their re-accreditation from the rrc.

if you are really interested in san fran, but don't want an academic power (ucsf), i would recommend getting in touch with them and maybe trying to set up an away rotation. they only interviewed 12 of us this year for 3 spots!!!! however, i still got an interview and didn't rotate there.
