I've heard that recently a bunch of the attending docs from UNC departed the program. I've also heard that they have a new chairman who is trying to address the "problems" and get new staff on board.

Does anyone know if these are merely rumors or truth, or something in between? Any ideas about how this would affect their residency program?

I've heard the same thing....over the past year about 5 attendings have left. One in particular really burned some bridges, something to do with how much $ he was making versus how much was going to the dept. for research. He's gone now, and they're looking for some young new faces. Sounds like it could be and up and coming program, but the real question is are you willing to be part of the "rebuilding period"?

The new chiarman at UNC, Doug Dirschl, is as good as they get. Having known him for a few years now, I have nothing but respect for him and full confidence that he can make UNC into a great program. Perhaps the best person for you to ask about Dirschl would be your local ortho trauma surgeon, if he reads at all or attends the OTA meetings, he'll know Dirschl.

OHSU sure misses dirschl. he gave the same "rebuilding" spirit to portland then abandoned them after 2 short years. sounds like a great plan if he sticks around...
