UVA Orthopedics - Spine Research Fellowship

The University of Virginia Orthopaedic Surgery Department is accepting applications for a paid Research Fellowship Position for the academic year from 2021-2022.The goal of the research fellowship is to mentor senior medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery. Although the fellowship is focused primarily on research within the Spine Division, applicants need not have a vested interest in spine surgery for their future career. The fellow will be involved in ongoing retrospective and prospective studies, with opportunities to learn skills pertaining to grant writing, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Research students have thrived in this role, typically completing minimum of 30 manuscripts in a 12 month period.
Students are supervised by Dr. Hassanzadeh and have the opportunity to take part in all education activities available through the department, such as daily resident conferences, journal clubs, and indications conference. Students also have a chance to shadow and gain valuable clinical experience.
