I've heard some places will let you know they are planning on ranking you to match so that they can see if you will do the same in return - anyone know if this is true or heard from any programs yet?

There are some post-interview contact threads from previous years that would lead me to believe this is true too. Interested in what others think or have heard...

When I interviewed at Loyola, the chair told us their department adheres strictly to the rules of the Match process, and as such, there would be no post-interview contact on their part, and that any on our part will neither affect our standing negatively or positively. I thought it was nice of him to state this so clearly, and explain the rationale for it.

Just a friendly heads-up that "ranked to match" does not mean you will match if you rank that program #1. If a program matched within their top 15 last year, then technically #1 through #15 are considered "ranked to match". I have close friends who were told they were "ranked to match" by programs and ended up someplace completely different. Just be cautious and level-headed through the process because it's all a crap-shoot.

If they do call you just remember that they are calling to help secure THEIR rank list. Do not modify your rank list based on post-interview communication.

So anybody gotten any post-interview contact yet? I've heard of a couple places that sent an email or made a call now that the interview trail is starting to wind down

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has been contacted and where too. Orthoman, where have you heard of calls/emails going out?

Ortho* - with hopes of not bringing attention towards particular programs, I will say that I have heard of contact immediately post-interview at a couple places on the East coast, and indications that other programs should be contacting shortly.

From what I have understood, every program I have interviewed at spends the time after interviews are concluded to discuss candidates same-day. With that thought one would expect contact to have already been made by places that have concluded their interview dates.

I guess we will have to see if anyone can confirm/deny this happening at other programs currently.

I can confirms from firsthand experience that this has occurred. I received a "Ranked to Match" phone call from a chairman at a program within the last 2-4 weeks. The chair said something like, "you are ranked in our top 'x' number of spots," which just happened to be the number of positions they have next year.I don't even know why my posting this has any importance. It hasn't influenced/changed my rank list so far, and I don't really think that it should for anyone.

I think it just depends on the program, and I think the majority of programs do not do this. So if you didn't get a call/email there is no reason to freak out, and if you did then good for you. Obviously, I'm not going to say which program (other than the fact that I did not rotate there) in order to protect myself and the program, so don't bother asking. It is also my feeling that although a lot of programs discuss applicants right after interviews, most programs will not finalize their rank lists until late-Jan/early to mid-Feb after all their interviews have been completed.
