The Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Scoliosis at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), has designated research fellowships to offer US and non-US trained MD/DO/PhD a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic research. The fellowship program is an opportunity to work side-by-side with pediatric orthopedic surgeons, other clinicians, and researchers. Fellows expand their knowledge and exposure to the field of pediatric orthopedics and become involved in high-quality clinical and/or basic science research projects.  These are salaried positions that run from July through June. 

One of the fellowship positions is targeted at third or fourth year medical students or graduates interested in matching into a US Orthopedic Surgery residency program. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to strengthen his/her application for the orthopaedic surgery residency match.

The individual will participate in research activities which may include: subject recruitment, confirmation of subject eligibility, informed consent process, completion of case report forms, data cleaning/analysis, IRB preparations, medical record abstraction, preparing manuscripts, making presentation slides and posters, conducting literature reviews, updating study databases, as well as observing in a clinical and surgical setting.  

*Minimum Qualifications*:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to science; Must be enrolled in a medical school (M.D./D.O.) and interested in matching into an orthopedic surgery residency program in the U.S.; OR have graduated from medical school (M.D./D.O.) and interested in matching into an orthopedic surgery residency program in the U.S.; OR have a PhD interested in pediatric orthopedic research;
  • Demonstrate computer literacy in a MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ACCESS plus internet use;
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently with strong attention to detail;
    Demonstrate ability to handle multiple projects and meet timelines in a dynamic workplace environment;
    Demonstrate the ability to write English fluently;
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills, as interaction all levels of faculty, staff and research subjects is required;
  • Knowledge of the database/ search engines such as PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane, EMBASE, Nursing Consult, AHRQ and other EBP websites;
  • Research experience or demonstration of research interest is required.
