Geisinger Medical Center os a 500+ bed hospital serving as the hub of a 10-hospital health care system in Central Pennsylvania and as a tertiary care center for referrals from hospitals outside of the Geisinger system. There is a growing need for surgeons who can assess and treat spine conditions and offer nonoperative and operative care to these patients, many of who find it difficult to travel to Philadelphia or Baltimore where this care has traditionally been available.

This fellowship has extensive experience in primary and revision spine surgery in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, along with spine trauma.  While also providing experience with innovations like minimally invasive surgery and robotic spine surgery. This fellowship experience is ideal for young surgeons who will be expected to handle challenging cases in multiple settings.

The Spine Surgery section consists of three fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons who meet in a weekly indiction conference. There is a robust didactic lecture series for the residents, cadaver lab, and time allotted for CME. The fellow would also participate in a monthly case review with neurosurgery to review cases regarding periprosthetic infection.

The Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute is comprised of 80 physicians including 49 surgeons representing all of the subspecialties.  The fellow will take spine- only call with his rotation attending 5-6 days per month.

The Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute has a dedicated research department with support personnel which serve the entire department; the amount of time dedicated to research can be tailored to the fellow’s interest.

Geisinger is located in Danville, PA which is 20 minutes from Bloomsburg and Bucknell Universities making the community a safe, family oriented diverse community which consists of hospital and university employees.
