The fellow will gain a broad experience in techniques ranging from posterior spinal fusion, posterior column osteotomies, anterior spinal fusion, three column osteotomies, growing rod instrumentation, MAGEC rod instrumentation, Halo application, high grade spondylolisthesis correction, pediatric spine disc pathologies and use of navigation in pediatric spine deformities. In addition, there will be opportunity to gain experience in the management of pediatric cervical spine disorders through a partnership with the pediatric neurosurgery team and non-surgical techniques like Mehta’s casting for early onset scoliosis. The fellow will spend time in clinics to gain valuable knowledge on non-operative modalities of treatment in pediatric spinal deformities. The fellow will participate in weekly pre- and post-operative conferences and will be actively involved in surgical plan and decision making.
The fellow will have ample opportunities to participate in clinical research. The center for spinal disorders is an enrollment center for four multicenter national registries on children with spinal deformities. The center is well equipped with research staff and the fellow is expected to complete two research projects for the entire academic year.
