I am about to start my 2nd year of med school. I did three years of research before I started med school in the department of neurosurgery at the Univ of Washington and got two publications. Do you think it is important for me to eventually do more research as a med student to be competitive for an ortho residency, or is my aformentioned research sufficient. The reason I ask is because after doing all this research in college I got a little burned out and don't have the desire to do more in the near future. Instead, I have spent my summer shadowing orthopedic surgeons, which seems a little more practical than research. Will these summer observorships strengthen my residency application or should I be doing something else? Thanks for any and all help.
