Sir, I'm an IMG currently undergoing residency in orthopaedics from one of the good unversities in India. I plan to try for a residency programme in orthopaedics in US once i finish my residency here. I understand that most universities would be hesitant to enroll an IMG as he is an "unknown".
Does doing a period of observership for a few months at some hospital increase my chances of getting accepted into a residency programme.
Ive currently finished my step 1 with 254 score and have a few publications.
Thanks
Doing an "observership" probably does not help you much overall in the grand scheme of things. Working in a lab where people can evaluate your talents is probably a better use of your time - or spending a year as a surgical intern or a house officer are probably more helpful in the long run.
Thanks for the reply. I would love to do a round of surgical internship as one of the reasons im trying for residency is for a more structured learning curriculum. But how does a IMG like me go about trying to get a surgical internship and what can i do to improve my CV to help me achieve my target.
