How does it look to not have Step II score back?

I recently got my Step 1 score back and I somehow managed to get in the 255-260 range. I have heard that for some students it would be suggested to not take Step II until later so that the score will not be back during the application process. I was wondering how attending involved in the resident selection process feel about applicants who apply with only there Step 1 score as part of their application?

Most students are a little too busy this time a year to worry about taking step II. There are usually too busy on "audition" rotations. You have scored well, so I would take Step II when your life is a little less stressful and you have a studying window.

Above what score would you advise your students not to take Step II early?

There is no "right" answer unfortunately to any "how high" or "how low" USLME queries. That being said, however, if you nailed step 1 (consensus would say anything around 230,235 or certainly 240 and higher) - then not too much to gain probably. It's for the "tweeners" or very low step 1 scores that taking Step 2 early becomes more critical.
