Wondering if anyone has a recommendation on ABOS part II (oral boards) review courses? I am aware of the Maine course. Any others, especially out West? How much help is a review course for part II? Can one simply present his cases to a few local orthopaedic surgeons to get feedback or is that a waste of time?

Replied by on topic Part II Oral Boards
I am on the AAOS CME Committee and the AAOS Part 2 Oral Boards review course has been extremely positively reviewed by registrants who have participated. At a bare minimum, however, I counsel our former residents and fellows to have someone with oral board examination experience (preferably someone who has recently participated in the process as an examiner) to give you a mock oral examination. It is incredible to see what happens during this "discovery process" - cases you thought you would eliminate don't look so bad when someone else is helping you explore the nuances of your cases, for example.

Remember, part II is all about documentation, preparedness, humility, and honesty in patient care. People who get in trouble usually are ill-prepared, have demonstrated questionable indications (1000 knee scopes in a 6-month period), or are arrogant and combative.

Good luck!
