I've seen you patiently answering questions on improving chances for resident matching. My question is a little different and is for shoulder match. I would be thankful if you could take some time to answer it . I'm a fmg, foreign trained Orthopedist , ECFMG certified ,highly focused on being a shoulder surgeon . I wish to be matched at some good shoulder clinical fellowship program . I realize this is very competitive and there are very few programs ready to accept foreign graduates , but if that is the eventual goal .. What would improve my chances more ?My options are :
1. Do a US clinical joints fellowship , get US LOR , publications on joints and then apply
2. do a dedicated period in shoulder research in US with pubs in shoulder but that would be not more than 6 months as these r unfunded positions , a period for which i could hold myself on my own funds
3. try for some US clinical sports fellowship , which again is a long shot as these are difficult to get
Please advise me which would look better on cv and be my best bet?
