Hello, "below average" female future ortho applicant here, entering MS4 non-traditional student
- Steps (220,236, P)
- Mostly high passes, but some honors, not AOA
- Several school leadership activities, active in community service
- Interesting ECs like Katrina work for gov't, abroad work
- Full tuition scholarship at well respected/ranked research school
- Year of research fully funded in two year local fellowship program, some directly ortho, some bench bone in nobel laureate lab, some surgery related. Not published yet.
- Previous life as an artist
- Considering future with Peds Ortho

Planning away AIs for next year, with the understanding that a highly competitive program would likely not be the best match. Any advice on how to determine what programs are best for me (less competitive) to make best use of away AI time? The preceptorship model is appealing to me.

I plan on meeting with my Ortho department chair for advice in this as well, but also curious as to your opinions.

Thanks!

Replied by goheels on topic I grew up in NY,
I grew up in NY, but I am in NC and my family is here. I am not necessary specifically wed to one region, however, I would prefer to be somewhere sunny (if possible) and at this point I don't think I would prefer to live in the midwest or the super-deep south. Is that vague enough?
