Cleveland Clinic allows FMGs to rotate and has a history of taking them into their residency program. They also provide housing in the hospital to rotators. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Replied by on topic I'm sure you already know
I'm sure you already know that this will be a big challenge regardless of the country, but unless you have some extremely strong and influential advocates in the US, you will have a better shot in Canada. Work hard at arranging electives at Western, Mac and Toronto and kick butt during your rotations. You might also consider spending some time in Winnipeg since they consider both CMGs and IMGs in the first round. I would only do targeted US electives after covering all your bases in Canada.

While Cleveland Clinic has a history of taking IMGs, be careful because this can be misleading. All of the IMG residents have CVs that bring substantial additional credentials beyond an MD degree and high board scores, and you'll also note that none are from Caribbean schools.

Your calculation of the number of US vs Canadian spots is also misleading. While the overall number of spots is certainly higher in the US, Canada has 7 spots reserved for IMGs, while the US has none. Also, Canadian IMG spots are limited to permanent residents and citizens. Visa holders are excluded unlike the US. I'm pretty sure that the same number of Caribbean students have been accepted to Canadian ortho residencies in the past few years as compared to the US, but the pool of candidates is smaller. Most of the IMGs accepted to US ortho residencies have previous postgraduate education in their home countries, multiple years of US research experience, or both.

Thanks for all the replies. I have contacted Cleveland clinic. Unfortunately they do not take Caribbean students, but they do take IMGs for residency.

Thanks for the tip on Winnipeg. I will look into it.
