I just wanted to ask about the applicant screening process. In heavily-subscribed programs (e.g with >500 applicants), who screens the applications to decide if an interview is to be offered? It cannot be the PD alone. So is the panel confined to senior faculty? Or chief residents and attendings? etc
It actually is quite variable given my discussions with other program directors. Some programs start the screening based solely with USLME scores while many review each and every application (either a panel does it or the PD him or herself in some programs). It is a very taxing process regardless of whom does it. This year we had 591 applications for our six spots.
