Hi Dr. Levine,

I scored a 234 on step 1 and then went down to a 228 on step 2. What do you think of this situation? I am AOA at my medical school and have publications, a few on going research projects, presentations at conferences and have been on medical missions.

Thanks for the advice.

If you're AOA and have good 3rd year clinical clerkship grades (which I assume you do to be AOA) and have publications and a 234 on step 1 your step 2 score is really not that relevant. If it had gone down significantly that may have been a problem but 228 is not a big deal as far as I am concerned. If programs don't like anything under 240 they won't like either of your scores and if they don't care then you'll be fine regardless.

Good luck --
