As I am applying to programs, I notice most programs say that they require 3 letters of recommendation for their application. While a minority do state that they will disregard a 4th letter, most of them do not make such a statement. Do you believe that sending a fourth letter is beneficial or detrimental?
I can't speak for other programs but we don't mind reviewing 4 letters of recommendation. Of course if they specifically say no more than 3 I would definitely respect their wishes.
