I'm not sure the best forum to ask this question- but does anyone know if there are typically rules governing the relationships between residents and attendings? For instance, if someone is an attending at an institution and their spouse is going in to residency, can they be employed at the same place?
Does the ACGME frown on this? Any help or direction would be appreciated.
ACGME has no jurisdiction over this because they are not the hiring official. But just know this situation happens all the time. The hiring official (hospital and/or institution) will have rules about whether the attending has direct supervision over the resident. It sometimes creates an uncomfortable working environment for you or those around you to be in direct supervision over your spouse but it is not unusual particularly in a private hospital setting.
