I was hoping to gain some advice on how to switch from nsgy to Ortho. I’m currently a pgy2 and although I still love spine, I don’t think neurosurgeons are “my people”. I’m hoping to switch at the end of this year (or sooner if there is an opening). My program said they will support my decision
Switching at PGY2 is definitely doable, especially with solid reasoning and interest in spine as a bridge between the two. Start reaching out to ortho PDs and programs that might have unexpected openings due to attrition or expansion.
Highlight your surgical experience, work ethic, and interest in spine. Also, having letters from your current program director and any ortho faculty you’ve worked with will go a long way
