Does anybody have any stats regarding what kind of COMLEX scores or cut-offs are needed to crack a DO ortho spot? Are the resumes for those applicants that enter osteopathic DO programs fairly similar to those applicants gaining admission to allopathic programs? For instance, honors on clinical rotations, research, etc. Thanks for your help!
Speaking as an ortho resident at an osteopathic program, most programs heavily favor rotators (who have done well) versus taking a gamble on someone who they don't know. The majority of the interviews that we conduct are rotators (80%) and those we interview who did not usually "look" outstanding on paper (ie boards, class rank, letters, etc). Your best bet is to rotate at as many programs as you can and do well, but also do the best you can in your studies so that there is no doubt in anyone's mind to your commitment.
